2. FRENCH ESTABLISH SPEAKING ASSOCIATION
French speakers came together on March 13 in Paris to form The Association Francaise des Conferences Professionnels (AFCP). They plan to hold their first national convention March 11-13, 2009.
To honor and support the formation meeting, delegates from speaking associations in seven other countries attended the historic event: Canada, Germany, South Africa, UK, US, Switzerland, and Australia.
The first three-hour session was in English and the second part was in French. In both, the room was filled to capacity with 55 people; 156 had preregistered. Registration had to be closed several days prior.
Francis Zentz, Laurent Tylski, Joe Sherren and David Ednie:
Joe Sherren, IFFPS president, Welcomed French professional speakers to the international speaking community. The AFCP will be applying for IFFPS membership. Laurent Tylski, president, promised a sizable French delegation will attend the NSA convention New York in August.

3. PSA/HOLLAND BECOMES A FULL MEMBER ASSOCIATION OF IFFPS
On March 14 in Amsterdam, IFFPS president Joe Sherren announced to the first Dutch convention that Provision Member PSA/Holland had qualified for full IFFPS membership.
Hans Ruinemans, PSA/Holland president, receives charter from IFFPS president Joe Sherren:
Nearly 50 speakers attended the two-day event in Amsterdam. Attendees came from eight other countries for the first Dutch speakers’ convention. For a video report on these two momentous events, see IFFPS president Joe Sherren at

4. AIRLINE CREDIT CARDS COMPARED. After miles for airline flights, the next-most-important source of miles for most frequent flyers is the credit card. And for good reason. Cards with a mileage-earning component give users a way to "double dip" (earn miles both for the flight, the hotel or the car rental, AND for the dollar value of the charged purchase), as well as earn miles for credit card purchases which would
not otherwise fall under the mileage umbrella. See
http://www.frequentflier.com/card-air2.htm
5. HIDDEN HOTEL FEES YOU CAN AVOID
In recent years, hotels have become increasingly adept at finding ways to nickel and dime their customers. According to a study published last year by
PriceWaterHouseCooper's Hospitality Division, hotels are gorging themselves on surcharges and hidden fees. Hotels worldwide were on track to rake in nearly $2 billion in surcharges and hidden fees in 2007, more than tripling the $550 million they took in just four years ago. That's a lot of minibar charges and towel replacement fees.

D. SPEAKING/TRAVEL HUMOR
Murphy Laws for Frequent Flyers:
No flight ever leaves on time unless you are running late and need the delay to make the flight.
If you are running late for a flight, it will depart from the farthest gate within the terminal.
If you arrive very early for a flight, it inevitably will be delayed.
Flights never leave from Gate #1 at any terminal in the world.
If you must work on your flight, you will experience turbulence as soon as you touch pen to paper or turn on your computer.
If you are assigned a middle seat, you can determine who has the seats on the aisle and the window while you are still in the boarding area.
Just look for the two largest passengers.
Only passengers seated in window seats ever have to get up to go to the lavatory.
The crying baby on board your flight is always seated next to you.
The best-looking woman/man on your flight is never seated next to you.
The less carry-on luggage space available on an aircraft, the more carry-on luggage passengers will bring aboard.
